Our Story
Since 2007, we have been calling Bigfork, Montana and the Flathead Valley our home. Our dream was to start a family business that would allow us the opportunity to share our love of the outdoors with others. Having lived and traveled throughout much of this great country we couldn’t have picked a better places to start this endeavor. We have been offering our hands on dog sled tours since 2009 and opened our paddle shop in town in 2011. A few years later our guest lodging was completed to extend our hospitality. Hosting and sharing insights on how to best explore this unique village that we call home is something we truly enjoy. Today we are thankful to have our sons in the mix and are grateful for their contributions to our family business. We look forward to meeting you, The Schurkes
Our purpose is to provide you with quality guided adventures, local insight to better enjoy your own and a comfortable place to stay in between.

Lead Guide & Owner: Mark Schurke
After receiving his BS in Parks Recreation and Tourism from Michigan State University, Mark spent a semester internship working for his uncle Paul Schurke’s dogsled operation, Wintergreen Dogsled Lodge, in northern Minnesota. Lucky for Mark, his uncle’s legacy in the dogsled world and Wintergreen’s world class distinction gave him a premier experience and helped him discover his passion in life. His journey continued as he spent several winters guiding multi-day dogsled and winter camping trips in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Mark enjoyed his off season as Wintergreen’s kennel manager, caring for an over 70 Inuit Sled Dogs, the largest kennel of this breed in the world. For over two decades Mark has worked as a wilderness guide in many capacities and locations, guiding white water rafting, kayaking, hiking and mountain biking trips. His love for nature and his surroundings is contagious.
